Anatel Pokki (アナテル・ポッキ Anateru Pokki) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He entered the Shaman Fight in Tokyo 2000 and formed Team "Niles" with two of his best friends.[3] Anatel's death led his younger brother, Anahol Pokki, to join with Asakura Hao's group.[4]

Appearance[]

Anatel's full appearance.

Anatel is a man of average height. He wears a pair of white dress pants and a white formal suit. Underneath it, he wears a light blue shirt and a green and red striped tie that is decorated with lines of Egyptian hieroglyphs. He wears simple white dress shoes with the golden tips similar to the chin decoration worn by the pharaoh.

He often wears a mask of Tutankhamun (ツタン仮ー面カーメン Tsutan-kāmen) and has to be careful when donning it because of his long nose. He has black Egyptian eyeliner around his eyes, a long, black goatee similar to the chin decoration worn by Egyptian pharaohs, and short, black, curly hair. According to his brother Anahol Pokki, he has a very beautiful nose.

Personality[]

Anatel was well-liked by his friends, who believed him to be the friendliest person.[5] In turn, he boasted about their abilities, praising them as the strongest of their specialties. He is also extremely proud of his Egyptian heritage, believing that the source of his shamanic magic was the original and therefore the best.[6] He proclaims himself to be the best Egyptian shaman in the universe and the descendant of an ancient Egyptian king.[5] Because of his egotism, he easily loses his cool during his fight with the X-Laws and saw his teammates defeat as a great insult to their abilities.[6][7]

Anatel's Guardian Ghosts are the spirits of ten thousand Egyptian slaves who once built the pyramids.[6] It is said that they carry the curse of Tutankhamun's tomb.[7]

History[]

Past[]

Anatel was born on September 1, 1967[2] in Giza, Egypt.[1] He was the son of a millionaire who made his fortune through international trade. Anatel became a high-ranking government official and decided to enter the Shaman Fight together with his two best friends to prove the greatness of Egyptian magic.[5]

Coming to Tokyo[]

Anatel and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[8]

A month later, Anatel and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[9]

Anatel, Khafre, and Nakht successfully reached the village and formed Team "Niles" for the tournament.

Shaman Fight Second Round[]

Their first match was against the X-Laws' Team "X-I", consisting of Lyserg Diethel, Marco Lasso, and Iron Maiden Jeanne. The match started and Lyserg destroyed Niles' media and crippled Anatel in one shot, even destroying his precious mask.

Anatel decided to use everything he had to win. He pulled out the Wings of Death and used it on Lyserg. Lyserg attacked faster but stopped for some unknown reason. Seeing he could not finish it, Jeanne moved Lyserg aside and asked Marco to open the Iron Maiden. Everyone took notice of her enormous power just before Marco opened the maiden. however, Anatel tried to attack Jeanne, starting yelling that little girls like her should be writing in a diary. But he was captured in an Over Souled torture weapon and was killed off by Shamash's Judgement.[10]

Anatel later reunited with his brother and teammates within the Great Spirit. They boarded the train of souls in the Great Spirit and rode it up to the Shaman King's Commune in order to support the Five Elemental Warriors against Shaman King Hao.[11]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Anatel's role in the 2001 anime series is nearly the same as his manga counterpart; however, his team battle with X-I was not an official Shaman Fight match. As his brother Anahol only appeared in the manga series, there is no mention of Anatel having a brother.

Trivia[]

  • In the Game Boy Advance game Shaman King: Master of Spirits 2, Anatel Pokki reappears as an enemy only in the Patch Village areas by using his O.S "Wings of Death" and using his ankh to call upon undead Egyptian slaves to aid him in battle.[12]
