Porf Griffith (ポーフ・グリフィス Pōfu Gurifuisu) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He served as a sniper of the U.S. Delta Forces. As a member of the X-Laws, he participated in the Shaman Fight as part of Team "X-II".
Appearance[]
Porf is an averaged height man, with a completely bald head that is shaped to look a lot like an egg. In one chapter cover, he is depicted with a tattoo on the back of his head, saying "X-Laws". He wears the standard X-Laws uniform with a green sash while his wide shoulder guard resembles an old-fashioned Roman shield.
His street clothes consist of a loose Hawaiian shirt and black pants.
Like the rest of X-II, he has revealed to still carry around his old military uniform, which he puts on when he and the rest of X-II decided to target Asakura Hao one final time.
Personality[]
Like many of the X-Laws, Porf is an extremist believer that the end justifies the means. After learning that Marco had lied about Jeanne's origins, Porf loses faith in Marco as a captain.

His Guardian Ghost is a car-based tsukumogami empowered by a piece of the archangel Sariel. The media for its Over Souls are bullets for a Remington rifle,[3] and the original vehicle was a light green Porsche 911 Turbo.[4] Like all the other archangels, Sariel has the ability to shatter souls.[5]

Porf was born in San Francisco, CA on February 7, 1971. After joining the U.S. Delta Forces as a sniper, he participated in Operation "Restore Hope" in 1993, during which he and Larch Dirac encountered Asakura Hao.[6] Hao killed the rest of their unit, and when Porf included in his report a description of the boy enveloped in fire, he was discharged from the military. Afterwards, Porf and Larch sought revenge against Hao and eventually joined the X-Laws.[7]
Travel Through America[]
After arriving at Mesa Verdede, Porf and the other X-Laws watched as Marco killed Boris Tepes Dracula with his Archangel, Michael.[5] As the X-Laws and Asakura Yoh's group traveled deeper into the mesa, Marco introduced the members of his group. When Bill Burton ambushed the X-Laws, they defeated him by overwhelming him with their Archangels; however, Yoh refused to let them kill Bill.[3] After Marco briefly clashed with Yoh, the X-Laws respected Yoh's bravery and so left Bill alive as they continued ahead to the Patch Village.[8]
Shaman Fights Second Round[]
One night, Marco and the remaining X-Laws were visited by Yoh, who wanted Marco's permission to once again participate in the Shaman Fight. However, instead of arguing with them, Yoh quickly revealed his resolve to fight with them.[9] In turn Marco was quick to decide that Yoh was allied with Hao and therefore his soul had to be destroyed, and together with Team "X-II" attacked Yoh, but Yoh easily dodged all of their attacks as he had used Soul Integration with Amidamaru.
After the failed attack by Luchist Lasso on their cargo ship, and the revelation that Iron Maiden Jeanne was not a holy person, Porf, Larch, and John Denbat decided that Marco could no longer be trusted and that it was time to face of with Hao one last time.[10]
Porf impaled by the Spirit of Fire
The mission was planned so that Larch and John would take guard posts, while Porf would target Hao from a small distance with his sniper rifle. After some small chit-chat about whether or not they should go through with the mission, Porf reported that he was in position, but when he had Hao's head in his target, he suddenly lost focus due to seeing Hao crying. As Team X-II's attempt to kill Hao failed, Porf was the first to die by being impaled by one of the fingertips of the Spirit of Fire. As he died, he told John and Larch, over the radio, that they should run away.[6] Hao later told John that they had seen something they should not have.[11]
Invading the Plants[]
When Hao created a Black Hole within the Great Spirit, the X-Laws appeared in their Supercars to protect the train that was aiding the Five Elemental Warriors.[12] After the battle, Hao resurrected everyone who had died during the Shaman Fight.
Day After Maiza[]
After being revived, Porf and the rest of the X-Laws (except Marco) were inspired to reunite at Mont Saint-Michel. They then reformed into a charity organization, with large support from the Leidi Group.[7] The new X-Laws visited war-torn places around the world, bringing aid and exorcising evil spirits.[13]
In 2008, they all gathered together and celebrated the wedding of Jeanne and Tao Ren.[14] Porf and Chris later returned to working for the U.S. Army and were assigned positions in Germany.[7]
Marcos[]
Spimea Lasso and Daremoine leveraged their influence to get the various members of the X-Laws fired from their military and government positions.[15] Shortly after, Luchist Lasso contacted the X-Laws, notifying them that Marco was at Mont Saint-Michel, so they all returned there. They were confronted by Spimea, whose Lucifer quickly overpowered the Archangels and caused the X-Laws to lose consciousness. Lyserg continued the fight with the Spirit of Fire until Luchist interrupted. Everyone then bore witness to Marco's revival.[16] The X-Laws were shocked by Marco's appearance as a young boy, as well as his angelic power, which overwhelmed Spimea and Lucifer and forced them to retreat.[17]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
Gate of Babylon[]
Porf's death in the 2001 anime series.
Following the events of the Gate of Babylon, Porf is killed when Hang Zang-Ching decapitated Sariel, while it crushes Porf with his own weapon.[18]
Trivia[]
- His grandfather was an overseas Chinese, and Porf learned Chinese martial arts from his grandfather.[19]
- Porf's birth year was originally listed as 1986 in the Shaman King Official Fan Book: Mankin Book but was amended to 1971 in the Shaman King Kazenban Final Official Guide Book Mentalite. This change was later supported by his age listed in the Day After Maize profiles.
