Mephistopheles (メフィストフェレス Mefisutoferesu) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. He is a Grand Duke of Hell[1] and the guardian of the Spirit of Wind.[2]
During the Shaman Fight of AD 1500, he was the Guardian Ghost of Johann Faust I.[3][4]
About[]
Mephistopheles values contracts[5] and will grant people's wishes in exchange for their souls. Wanting to gain every bit of knowledge in the world, Johann Faust I summoned Mephistopheles and made a deal with the devil.[1] With the devil as his Guardian Ghost, Faust entered the Shaman Fight of AD 1500 but died because Mephistopheles was too powerful for him.[3]
After Hao stole the Spirit of Fire, the Patch Tribe hid the other Grand Elemental Spirits within the depths of Hell to prevent them from being stolen as well. They entrusted the Spirit of Wind with Mephistopheles because he was less famous than Lucifer and not too powerful to be bound by the contract.[5]
When Sati Saigan and Team "Myooh" went to Hell to steal the remaining four of the Grand Elemental Spirits, Kado fought against Mephistopheles. Despite losing his left arm, Kado ultimately defeated the devil.[2]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
He is never directly referred to in the 2001 anime series so he does not make an actual appearance.
Trivia[]
- Despite his position as a ruler of Hell, he is actually a major demon under Satan in most Judeo-Christian beliefs.
