Namari (ナマリ Namari) is a fictional character from the Shaman King manga and anime series. He is one of the Ten Patch Priests overseeing the Shaman Fight and the Patch Officiant responsible for overseeing the Gandhara teams and Team "Tsuchi-Gumi".[2] He openly supports Asakura Hao in his quest to become Shaman King, to the extent that he allows Team "Tsuki-Gumi" to kill most of the Gandhara.[3]

Appearance[]

Namari is above average height. His hair is long like most of the Patch Tribe and is gathered into two tails in back. When not in battle, he wears a standard Patch cloak with silver plating on his chest resembling a curdled up snake. His mask is a large dome with a hexagon pattern and a bundle of feathers sticking off the bottom in the back.

When in his Plant or in battle, he wears the skirt of his Patch cloak and silver metal rings around his arms and waist.

Personality[]

He was an open supporter of Asakura Hao, intimidating some of the remaining contestants in the tournament. He also has a tendency to refer to himself in the third-person.

Abilities and Powers[]

Spirit[]

See More: Red Rope

Namari's guardian ghost is that of a giant cobra named Red Rope[4] with his medium being snakeskin on his wrist. Once Over Souled it appears with the head of a snake over his arm and covering his hand.

History[]

Shaman Fight Second Round[]

Red Rope

Namari uses Red Rope to threaten Ryu and Tokageroh.

Having followed Gandhara to their meeting with Team "Funbari Onsen", Namari overheard their plot to steal the Five Grand Elemental Spirits for Asakura Yoh and the other Elemental Warriors.[5] When Sati Saigan called Namari out of hiding, he claimed to be neutral but warned them about their plot. When Umemiya Ryunosuke threatened to attack him, Namari reiterated his neutral stance but illustrated the difference in power by summoning his spirit, Red Rope, around Ryu and Tokageroh. As he left, Namari informed them that the recent deaths of Team "X-II" meant Team "Nyorai" would face Team "Kabbalahers" next.[4]

When Team "Tsuki-Gumi" attacked Gandhara and Team "Funbari Onsen", Namari stayed to watch, choosing not to intervene and allowing them to kill Sati and the Gandhara members,[6] because he was in support of Asakura Hao becoming Shaman King. After Yoh was resurrected, Namari was shocked with how much Furyoku the boy had gained and how easily he defeated Team "Tsuki-Gumi".[3]

Namari reported to Goldva about Gandhara's plot to steal the Grand Elemental Spirits. While watching the match between Team "Funbari Onsen" and Team "The Ren", Namari reiterated his concerns about the plot, but Goldva dismissed it as simply being their destiny.[7]

Invading the Plants[]

After the Patch Officiants escorted the four teams to , the other eleven fighters ceded the victory to Hao, allowing him to become Shaman King. As the Officiants led Hao to the King's Shrine, each one took their position in their respective Plants,[8] with Namari stopping in the first one, the Desert Plant.[9]

Namari kills Ryu

Namari kills Ryu.

Upon greeting the invading nine fighters, Namari had Red Rope burst up out of the sand and then dive back under so as to terrorize them. He then had it attack Tao Ren in order to illustrate Ren's inability to summon lightning in the Plant. Ryu hit the snake before it could completely break Ren's Over Soul, and challenged Namari himself, pulling out his new Over Soul, Sushi Knife Susanorō. Even after Ryu sliced up the snake like it was sushi, Namari merely recreated it and goaded Ryu into attacking him. Namari then used a mirage to distract Ryu so that he could get the drop on Ryu. Threatening to kill Ryu with Red Rope's venom, Namari offered to spare Ryu if the group would retreat. Ryu, however, admitted to having fallen into the trap so Namari would reveal his real Over Soul. Although Ryu blocked Namari's attack, Red Rope quickly broke the sword and poisoned Ryu, killing him.

Ren kills Namari

Ren electrocutes Namari.

Yoh then selected Ren and Usui Horokeu to fight Namari, who found it amusing since those two could not generate their elements in the desert. The Patch Officiant charged at Horohoro and knocked him aside. When Ren tried to punch him, Namari had Red Rope coil up and absorb the attack. However, while Namari was distracted, Horohoro had made ice from the water of the Plant's small oasis. With the ice scattered into the air, Ren generated a lightning strike, killing Namari. Before he died, Namari smiled.[10]

After Asakura Hao became Shaman King, Namari and the other Patch Priests gathered around him within the Great Spirit.[11]

Anime/Manga Difference[]

Due to the major changes to the second part of the Shaman Fights in the 2001 anime series, Namari was one of the many Patch Tribe members not to be introduced.

Trivia[]

  • Like most of the other Patch Tribe members, Namari is named after one of the chemicals in the periodic table of elements. His name is derived from the Japanese name of lead ( namari).
