Zria Gagarik (ゾリャー・ガガーリク Zoryā Gagāriku) is a fictional character in the Shaman King manga and anime series. She is a Russian shaman and a member of the Icemen for the Shaman Fight in Tokyo 2000.[4]
Appearance[]
She is an average-sized woman who spoke with a heavy Russian accent. She normally wears a Russian dress with some writing on the shirt. She wears a winter hat with antlers during fights. Her street clothes are a shirt with "Russian" writing on it, a neat skirt and snow boots.
Personality[]
She is very quiet in a way because the experiments that were done to her. She have opened up considerably after her defeat at the hands of Asakura Yoh and finally enjoys her life the best way she can.
Abilities and Powers[]
Her shamanic powers first appeared during her early to late teens after medical experimentation by Soviet scientists.[5]

Her guardian ghost is Vodyanoy, a nature spirit that is able to manipulate water. Zria uses a shamanic drum as a medium and her Over Soul can condense the moisture in the air into water for her to manipulate.[4]
History[]
Past[]
Zria originates from Kem, Russia and was born on January 13, 1982. She was one of many children that were gathered together as test subjects at a Soviet research laboratory, that investigated extra-sensory perception. She nearly died several times due to the experiments they were subjected to and all the drugs they were given, in hopes of increasing their skills. One day, during an experiment that involved an Intravenous therapy I.V lines she realized that there was a nature spirit present within the drip. This spirit was Vodyanoy, and they both managed to escape by utilizing Soul Integration. Wandering aimlessly, she would have died of cold if she had not followed to safety some nature spirits that were hiding underground.[5]
Shaman Fight in Tokyo[]
Not much is known about her performance during the preliminary round, but she did win two matches and advanced to the main competition. Zria and the other qualifying competitors attended the opening ceremony at Mimata Hall.[6]
Traveling through America[]
A month later, Zria and the other competitors gathered at Yokocha Base and were flown to America in the Patch Jumbo. The shamans were tasked with locating and reaching the Patch Village within three months. While still tens of thousands of feet in the air, the jumbo jet was revealed to be an Over Soul shortly before it was dematerialized, dropping all of its passengers.[7]
Zria successfully reached the village and, with Pino Graham and Tona Papik Cadimahide, formed the team Icemen for the tournament.
Shaman Fight Second Round[]

After overhearing Asakura Yoh's boast about beating them in with one hit, the Icemen sought to attack him for the insult but were stopped by Team "The Ren". While introducing themselves, the Icemen demonstrated their Over Souls on Chocolove McDonnell, with Zria trapping him in a cube of water.[8]
Just before the match between the Icemen and Team "Funbari Onsen" began, Yoh demonstrated his new double-medium Over Soul, "Spirit of Sword". The Icemen were frightened by this display but still wanted to fight. As the match began, they concentrated their attacks on Johann Faust VIII, who dodged around them until he used his own body to shield Eliza Faust from an attack, despite her being a ghost. Zria and Tona were momentarily swayed by Faust's story about reuniting with Eliza; however, they sobered up when Faust summoned his gigantic Over Soul, "Mephisto E".[9] Frightened by the power, Zria and Tona were initially hesitant to attack but followed Pino's lead. She was then shocked to see Umemiya Ryunosuke thaw out after being frozen by Badbh. The Icemen launched a combination attack, and Ryu blocked the projectiles but refused to directly attack them. He then summoned his own gigantic Over Soul, "Yamata no Orochi Go", which further terrified the Icemen.[10]

Since both Faust and Ryu refused to fight back, the Icemen focused their attacks on Yoh, but he remained unscathed. Yoh wanted them to attack at full force so he summoned "Spirit of Sword" again. The Icemen agreed to the challenge and poured their strength into one final attack. True to his word, Yoh defeated them with one attack, winning the match for Team "Funbari Onsen".[11]
Afterwards, the Icemen cheerfully hung out with Yoh and his friends, although Zria was unnerved by the attention of Ponchi and Conchi. With their part in the tournament finished, the Icemen were planning to leave the next morning on a boat.[12]

Before they could leave, they were attacked by Bill Burton and Brocken Meyer, who wanted to collect their souls for Asakura Hao. After Bill trashed the boat, Brocken read out their furyoku amounts, pointing out how low theirs were compared to his and Bill's. Although Usui Horokeu stepped in to assist the Icemen, they were still no match for Bill and The Big Guys, and the Icemen were knocked unconscious.[13] After Usui Lycan and Gororo knocked Bill unconscious, Horohoro borrowed the Icemen's spirits to defeat Brocken.[14]
Shortly after, Lyserg Diethel arrived and carried the Icemen and Horohoro to reunite with Yoh and his friends. There, Faust treated their injuries, but the group was forced to flee when more of Hao's followers attacked the base. The Icemen were flown on Faust's "Mephisto E" back to the inn.[15]
Anime/Manga Difference[]
In the 2001 anime series, she and her teammates never made it to the second round.
Triva[]
- She is named after a Russian goddess.
- Zria is a more traditional Russian type shaman as demonstrated by her traditional battle attire and affinity towards natural sprits.
- Her place of birth is one of the few places where shamanism is still practiced in Russia
- "Zorya" is an old form of Russian word "Zarya" which means "Dawn".
